DIY Custom iPhone Charger

14-06-10Is there any minor inconvenience worse than not having a charger or losing yours? In a time where it seems like almost everyone I know is using an Apple device of some kind, there’s something to be said about marking your charger to make sure no one mistakes it for their own. Having once lived in a suite with seven other girls in college, I know how difficult it can be to keep track of “your” charger (for phone, computer, etc) when there are several identical other ones in close proximity. You could write your name on it, but  in my experience, even permanent marker wears off with the heat chargers generate. What’s a quick, inexpensive solution to making a custom colored charger? Bach in the Bath

Powder Blue Bathroomimage via

Fun fact about me: when I was little, I used to be afraid in the shower because I’d watched some scary TV show where a slime monster would invade people’s homes through their pipes. I was always scared that when I closed my eyes to shampoo, the creepy thing would come out of the drain and attack me. Normal, right? My irrational fear happened to compete with how much I enjoy baths and showers – like every other normal human I know, I can’t get enough of the water, the warmth and the deliciously scented products that are a part of the bathing process. I’d take three a day if I wasn’t concerned about my skin being adequately moisturized. My solution back in the day to my Goosebumps-induced issue was, naturally, to bring my little tape player into the bathroom and listen to a Pocahontas book on tape. Not only was I not scared anymore, but I found myself especially capable of pretending to be a Native American princess hanging out under a casual waterfall. You know, if waterfalls ever were located in the upstairs bathroom of my house in Rhode Island.

Sadly, my “Just Around the Riverbend” themed-shower days have passed, but it still holds true that I like listening to music as I rinse and repeat. Generally, the radio in my shower has always been set to my favorite car radio stations (shoutout to 92PRO-FM), but this past month I made a small alteration that has been a huge game changer to my morning routine. I find myself feeling more calm, joyful, and invigorated when I start my day…and if you know me you know another fun fact about me is that I am not a morning person.  Thus, those are not words I would usually use to describe my feelings before 10 am. So, what’s my nifty trick? Continue reading

DIY | Scented Cents

20140304-105232.jpg

In life, there are a lot of shockingly good smells. Cookies, Chanel, peonies, and Ralph Lauren Blue all immediately come to mind. However, one scent I simply cannot abide is that of change. Not in the metaphorical sense (“Change is in the air…”) but literally, I hate the smell of coins. They remind me of blood, or something equally gross and metallic. Also, sidewalks. Obviously, you can imagine I might be a bit sensitive to opening my wallet, seeing as how it’s the place where those nasty rounds of metal live. However, I’ve come up with an innovative fix for my issue! (#thankgoodness) If you, like I, don’t care for the musty odor that coins – really, money in general – bring to the purse party, then take note of the following solution. Spoiler alert: it’s both effective and f-r-e-e! Continue reading

Doggie Diapers

Although a big emotional jump from my last post, I’m here to address another family member: my dog. This is Snowy.Snowy(He’s looking especially good here because he’d just been groomed)
As a dog of a rather advanced age, (turning sixteen in February!) Snowy has developed some senior tendencies as he’s gotten older. One such development has been far, far worse than any of the others – he has become an angry tinkler. Indeed, this innocent-looking white fluff ball will actually angrily pee while staring you in the eye if you don’t give him what he wants sometimes. This has been especially frustrating for those of us who live with him. Imagine heading up to bed only to step your foot into a fresh pile of pee. #gross The solution? Continue reading
